Welcome

Welcome to our new webpage, we hope it will be informative to the current and prospective members.  As the web page is a work in progress please let know how we can make it work for you, the membership.  Check out the various areas especially the letters from the President.  It is the goal of the officers and directors to keep our club a friendly and enjoyable place to shoot, which means we the membership must remain responsible. We are still having a slight problem with individuals shooting shotguns on the pistol range.  I would remind everyone we have a patterning board to the east of the clubhouse.  Shotgun use on the pistol range causes unnecessary damage to the backboards which inhibits pistol shooters from using the backboards, it adds to the club expense to replace the backboards, and time spent to repair.  Please shoot responsibly.

New, New, New:

This is an update to our meeting on Thursday, April 12 held at the Bay City train depot. The meeting opened with a small presentation on the status of our lease agreement and the status of our assets that are still on the property that was the Bay City gun club shooting range. Because we are looking into the possibility of forming another nonprofit organization and because of the new owner’s actions we have secured legal counsel both to advise us on the new organization and to discuss the disposition of our assets upon the property. The members of the club were basically presented with two options - one is that we simply dissolve the organization known as the Bay City gun club and divide up monies and refund what's available to the members. It was discovered that because we are a nonprofit organization that it and of itself may not be possible. The other option presented was to seek new property, seek financing and establish a new shooting range for the Bay City Gun Club. After some discussion a motion was made that the club form a new non-profit charitable organization, dissolve the Bay City gun club and transfer all assets and monies to the new organization. A motion was made and carried that we accomplish this task. To that end our secretary-treasurer Jimmy Brown is working with our legal counsel and we hope to have the new organization in place within the period of three weeks. Shortly thereafter we will have a meeting basically forming the organization adopting bylaws and electing new officers and directors as dictated by the new bylaws. We do not see a drastic change in the bylaws that the Bay City gun club has and will adapt those most likely to the new organization. As you know we tentatively found a piece of property over in the Blessing area and a layout of this proposed property was presented, however it was the decision of the club that we form a committee that will seek out other properties within the county and we put a timeframe of 30 days upon that action. This was based on the fact that there may be other properties for sale that we may be unaware of and the individuals that form this committee volunteered to spend time and they have a wealth of connections within the community. Our committee is headed by two of our directors, Richard White and Jimmy Brown. If you would like to help them or if you have information of properties around Bay City that may be suitable please e-mail me back at this e-mail and I will pass information on to them. Of course it goes without saying acquisition of any property will be dependent upon our ability to finance it and raise money to pay for it.
